I think this is the easiest recipe I’ll ever post. Mr. Texanerin made this for Thanksgiving last year (his first Thanksgiving ever!) and it was kind of the star of the day. Before he made this for my family, they always got the canned stuff and every year people would take a pity spoonful. I don’t even know why we had it.
So first you need to get yourself some cranberries.
Mix them with honey, orange juice and orange zest.
Cook.
Tada!
Later this week: a pie recipe which requires cranberry sauce! Sounds kind of disgusting, but I promise it’s delicious. :)
Ingredients:
1 cup (240ml) orange juice
1/2 cup (160 grams) honey*
Zest of 4 oranges
1 12-ounce package (340 grams) of cranberries
Directions:
Over medium heat, dissolve the honey in the orange juice. Zest the oranges directly into the mixture. Add the cranberries and cook until most of them have popped. It takes about 10 – 15 minutes. You don’t even have to stir them. It’ll get thicker when it has cooled.
* You can also make this with white sugar, but then use 3/4 cup.

Heidi – That was my problem too. It's just way too much sugar! Honey isn't all the much better, but at least it's a little better than white sugar. I hope you can try it out!
Anon – I just used honey because I think it's a little better healthwise than white sugar. But as far as taste goes, I'm all about white sugar. The honey makes it taste a little more… complex? But it also tastes fantastic with sugar. :)
Thanks for the recipe – I just convinced my husband to add this to our thanksgiving this year. We love the original recpie from Ocean Spray, but I'm intrigued to use honey!
Mmm, that looks so good to me :D I love cranberries, but I hate how much sugar they need to taste good. Definitely going to try honey next time! And the orange sounds delicious too!
Nicole – Thanks! And that was my problem too. There really aren't many cranberry sauce recipes without a load of white sugar. I've made this before with white sugar, and although it's really yummy, it's just too much white sugar.
Laura – I don't know how it would work out in Greek yogurt but the worst that could happen is that you don't like the mix and then you have to eat the sauce plain, which wouldn't be SO bad. :) Let me know how it works out!
warmvanillsugar – Thanks!
Sonia – I'm so happy that you're so enthusiastic about the sauce. This is a good consistency for cake filling! I hope you're able to incorporate it in one of your amazing creations. That'd be really neat. :)
GORGEOUS!!! STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS!!! I never thought cranberries could look so good.
And boy oh boy is this giving me ideas… (NOOO, not THAT kind of ideas… ;)
What an awesome cake filling this would make. Cranberry, orange almond cake. OMG. I have too many ideas, I don't know what to make next.
Oh, and ps… cranberries NEVER sound kind of disgusting! They are just YUM, in any way, shape or form. Ever munched on them right out of the bag? Wow are they good! Addictive, even… ;)
Such a classic, yummy, sauce! Love it!
This is exactly the type of recipe I've been trying to find! I just bought some fresh cranberries today and have been dying to make a nice sauce/compote with it–would this taste good with plain greek yogurt??
I'm also thinking of adding it to some sort of loaf quick bread. Lots of ideas swirling in my head! Thanks :)
What a gorgeous shade of red. I'm sure this sauce would be great on top of a cheesecake, too… it looks delicious. I'm also glad it can be made with honey as I'm on the lookout for recipes without refined sugars.
