Raspberry Banana Avocado Smoothie

First of all, I promise you can’t taste the avocado! It magically just blends in with the other fruit.

I got the idea of adding avocados to my smoothies from The Baltic Maid. Thanks Baltic Maid, for making it easier to eat green things! I tried the whole spinach smoothie thing, but it wasn’t for me. Fresh spinach is difficult to find here so I used frozen spinach and… no. Does anyone have a way of making spinach edible? Please share if you do!

This isn’t much of a recipe. Just throw stuff in the food processor / blender and that’s it. Add more fruit, less fruit, different fruit, it doesn’t matter. :)

I also dislike plain yogurt so these are nice. Three servings of fruit (I wish avocados counted as vegetables!) and yogurt.

Just ignore that sunken raspberry in the back. And the fact that I had to use soggy frozen raspberries because the fresh raspberries I found at the store today were moldy, which happens to be a normal occurrence around here (okay, yeah, I could have gone to one of the expensive stores to get them but I was being lazy).

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries (about 130 grams)
  • 1/2 – 1 avocado (mine was a Hass but you can use any type; mine weighed 130 grams)
  • 1 frozen banana, optional*
  • 1 cup (250 grams) plain yogurt
  • honey / Stevia / sugar / whatever sweetener you like
  • milk, optional
* Peel and cut the bananas into chunks (5-6 or even small pieces if you’re in a hurry), place in a baggie and then freeze for an hour first.

Directions:

I like my smoothies really thick so I use all yogurt but if you like, you could do half yogurt, half milk. Blend all ingredients, starting with only 1/2 an avocado, in your blender or food processor. My blender can’t handle recipes without lots of liquid, so I have to do this one in the food processor. Taste it and if you want the other half avocado, go ahead and add it in and blend some more. Add sweetener to taste. I add about 1 tablespoon of honey. Yields one large serving or two smaller ones.

I was drinking green smoothies for breakfast for a while there, but found myself after awhile choking down the green sludge (the spirulina didn’t help) where as I never did like the taste and was only drinking them for the health benefits and forget about getting my kids to drink them. Who could blame them? Not something I could keep up with so I’m happy I made this for breakfast this morning. I only put in half a cup of yogurt and lots of milk to make it easier for the kids to drink and we all loved it. Who wouldn’t want to drink a pretty pink drink? This was the first time my 15 month old was able to drink from a real cup where as it wasn’t too liquidy so I’m pretty happy!

I can’t drink green smoothies, either. Just… no. I think my brain doesn’t like it and my stomach doesn’t either. And they just taste bad. And yay, so happy that your little one could also enjoy this! Thanks for the review and rating. :)

I used vanilla greek yogurt and mixed frozen berries
because that's what I had on hand. Taste is good but way too thick. I added almond milk.

Delicious. I followed your recipe but also threw in a tablespoon of chia seeds and used vanilla yogurt because that's what I had in th fridge. Yum! I was looking for an avocado smoothie recipe because I knew it would make it creamy. Mine was definitely more of a guacamole color, but yummy nonetheless.

You used raspberries, though? How strange that it came out green. I make all kinds of avocado smoothies and they never come out weirdly colored. I'm happy you enjoyed the smoothie and I like your additions! Thanks for the feedback. :)
