Healthy Banana Cream Pie Milkshake (gluten-free, vegan options)

This banana cream pie milkshake is made healthy with Greek yogurt and bananas instead of ice cream and can be made dairy-free, vegan, and gluten-free!

It’s Milkshake Week! But me being me with my low posting frequency, I’m only joining in on the fun on the last day. Julie, Lindsay, and a lot of other bloggers have been posting amazing milkshakes all week long that have been making me desperate for freezer space. Freezer space so that I can actually buy ice cream to make actual milkshakes with! Due to my limited freezer space and my knowledge that you all prefer healthier options, I opted for a healthy ice-cream-free milkshake.

I thought about doing the frozen banana and peanut butter thing, but with natural peanut butter, I find that you have to add a ton to get any kind of peanut butter flavor. If I’m going to eat 300 calories of peanut butter (and believe me, I do ;)) I want to be at least able to taste it. So that idea quickly died.

I recently made graham crackers and used some of them to make graham cracker crusts, but I still wanted to get even more use out of them. I also attempted a banana cream pie that same day, which was a total failure. And so the banana cream pie milkshake was born!

All you do is blend frozen bananas, Greek yogurt, and milk, and add some whipped cream and graham crackers on top. If you use ripe bananas, your milkshake should be plenty sweet. However, I was a bit dumb and used some unripe bananas that weren’t very sweet. I added a little maple syrup and that took care of the sweetness issue! And, of course, feel free to substitute ice cream for yogurt.

This milkshake is super allergy-friendly. I’ve linked to gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, vegan and whole wheat graham crackers in the recipe as well as to dairy-free yogurt. Banana cream pie milkshakes for everyone! :D

Great recipe and I have all the ingredients! I always loved banana cream pie!

    1. I hope you’ll get a chance to try it out! :)

  2. This may be a dumb question, but when you said, “cream”, what kind of cream is it? Heavy cream? Whipped cream? I want to make this milkshake as a dessert for a friend who just had a baby. I thought your recipe is healthy and sounds yummy. Thank you for sharing!

    1. It’s not a dumb question! I just updated it in the recipe. Whipping cream, heavy cream or coconut cream (linked to it in the recipe!) all work. I hope your friend will enjoy it! So nice of you to make her something healthy and yummy. :)

These are awesome! I have been making almost this exact same recipe for a few years now but I add peanut butter to mine and ground flaxseed and I always use Greek yogurt for max protein continent. Love, love, love them! My go to in morning for quick easy, fast, on the go breakfast. I always keep bananas in freezer for this. I cut & freeze my over ripe ones or when I find them on sale.Yummy! 2 thumbs up!

    1. Sorry for the slow reply, Stephanie! I love your idea of adding ground flaxseed. I’d like to eat more flax but have a hard time incorporating it into goodies without ruining the taste. I guess I’ll try a little here. :) And I agree, keeping frozen bananas around is a must. Especially in the summer (and when you don’t have AC, like me!) Thanks so much for your comment!

  4. I’m one who really appreciates having a milkshake without ice cream. I would just delete a recipe with ice cream. Looking forward to trying this.

    1. Yay! So happy that I posted a recipe that you can actually make. I hope you’ll enjoy it! :)

  5. It’s funny that while you were justifying downing 2 bananas in one milkshake to everyone else, I was thinking “sweet, then I’m pretty much all set for my fruit for the day” ;-) Fruit is actually one of my least favorite things and I have to force myself to eat pretty much everything but apples — but fruit flavored milkshakes, I can drink all day long.

    1. Haha. Same here but with veggies (unless you count potatoes and corn, which I LOVE). I hate veggies in all their forms but pureeing them has made the amount of gagging go down. So at least there’s that. ;)

    1. But I kind of love what everyone else did so much more. ;) Oh well. Mine for breakfast and then I can have everyone elses’ for dessert. :D

  6. I’ve been following all these delicious Milkshake drinks and seriously can’t wait to try them…this one particularly looks fantastic! YUM!

    YUM!!!! I love banana stuff.

    1. Haha. “Banana stuff.” This comment made me laugh. :D Thank you!

    1. Careful now! Don’t want you to overdose on potassium. ;)

  9. Wow, I love these!! And I just have to laugh because our milkshakes today are polar opposites! :) :)

    1. Yes! Milkshakes (ehm… okay, smoothies) for breakfast! :D

    1. Right?! Half a cup servings don’t do it for me. ;)
