Raspberry Banana Avocado Smoothie (paleo, vegan options)

Avocado adds an awesome creaminess to this refreshing and healthy raspberry banana smoothie!

First of all, I promise you can’t taste the avocado! It magically just blends in with the other fruit. If you want to taste the avocado, just add more avocado and less banana. That way it stays just as creamy. And for a dairy-free and vegan version, leave out the yogurt and use almond milk or soy milk or whatever you like! It’ll still be pretty thick without the yogurt.

I got the idea of adding avocados to my smoothies from The Baltic Maid. Thanks to her for making it easier for me to eat green stuff! This Healthy Green Smoothie also looks great.

This isn’t much of a recipe. Just throw stuff in the food processor or blender and that’s it. Add more fruit, less fruit, different fruit, it doesn’t matter. :) And this raspberry avocado smoothie keeps well for about 24 hours, in case you can’t finish it all at once. I usually double the recipe and love having one ready as soon as I roll out of bed the next morning!

In this raspberry banana avocado smoothie, you get several servings of fruit (I wish avocados counted as vegetables!) and yogurt. It’s an awesome way to start off the day in a healthy way or to cool off after a day of running around outside!

Have you ever made a smoothie with avocados? I’d love to hear what fruit you used, if you did! I’m kind of in love with avocado smoothies that don’t taste like avocados at the moment. :) I think my brain is programmed to automatically programmed to dislike and reject anything that tastes “green.” So I need to hide the “green” taste, if that makes any sense!

Don’t like raspberries? I have other avocado smoothies!

Avocado adds an awesome creaminess to this refreshing, healthy and easy raspberry banana smoothie!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120 grams) raspberries fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 (101 grams) avocado
  • 1 (136 grams) large banana peeled and chopped into 1/2″ pieces and frozen
  • 1 cup (245 grams) plain yogurt or coconut/cashew yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • whatever sweetener you like
  • additional milk optional

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients in your blender, food processor or with an immersion blender. My blender can’t handle recipes without lots of liquid, so I have to do this one in the food processor.
  • Add sweetener to taste. If you don’t add the banana you will definitely have to add some sweetener to this smoothie. With the banana, I never add any sweetener.
  • If the smoothie is too thick for you, add milk.

Notes

This yields enough for 2 small smoothies or a 1 large one.

Hiya just needed to ask is there any reason why you use frozen fruit, can I use fresh.

    Thanks

    Sharon

    1. Of course you can use fresh! :) I just use frozen raspberries because they’re much cheaper (at least where I live). And I cut up and freeze bananas and avocados so that the smoothie is nice and thick.

Just found this post. Did you know you can grow spinach indoors? Even in an 8-inch flower pot? It’s easy to grow and tastes better than store-bought. If you don’t have a sunny window where you can put your spinach, a grow light is necessary.

    1. Nice! Thanks for the tip. I had no idea. I’ll definitely look into it! :)

    1. Thanks so much for the tip and the link! I’ll definitely give it a try. I’m still finding it hard to eat spinach (and veggies in general). I’ve even resorted to pureeing them so that they go down easier. ;) Finding a way to make them more edible sounds much better than doing that! Thanks again.

I see this post is old enough but had to reply anyhow. I am following a low carb diet plan and need protein at every meal, so I added 2scoops of vanilla protein powder to this recipe and a bunch of milk(powder thickened it). Tastes great and the protein powder acted as a sweetener too. Thanks

    1. I appreciate any and all feedback regardless of the post’s age! So thank you. :) I love your protein powder idea and I think I’m going to try that next time. Thanks a bunch!

  4. Loved it!! Thanks so much for this. Can’t wait to try more of your avocado smoothies.

If you want an idea for spinach here is a good one I enjoy

I frozen banana cut into pieces
    2 cups spinach, loose
    1 cup light coconut milk
add ice cubes if you want

    1. Thanks for your feedback and the recipe! I’d love to try some spinach-containing smoothies but my problem is that I don’t have access to fresh spinach. I’ve tried with frozen spinach (and kale!) and it’s so unpleasant that it makes me feel sick. :( But when I DO have access to fresh spinach, I’ll definitely try out your recipe! Thanks again. :)

      1. I agree with you on Kale, Erin (can’t eat the, er, “stuff”), but we had frozen spinach a lot when I was growing up, and I love it! I swear I’m the only person in this entire country who does!

        1. I try to eat a lot of frozen spinach but I still don’t like it. Hate is more accurate. I hope to wake up one day and love it. :)

I made this for the first time last week and have made it almost every day since! Although I made it with strawberries because I didn’t have any raspberries. Regardless, this is such a fantastic recipe.

    1. I’m so happy that you like it, Jenifer! I’ve been making this one a lot with strawberries lately, too. Just because I’m tired of raspberries. ;) Thanks so much for the feedback and the rating!

  6. Love it. Keep up the good word Erin. Mine was definitely more of a strange green color, but yummy nonetheless. I really adore smoothies!

    1. Thank you, Laila! I’m happy that you enjoyed the smoothie. So strange that yours didn’t come out pink! Perhaps my avocados are just weak in color? Who knows. As long as you liked it, I guess it’s okay. :)

  7. LOVE this!!! Just made and it was a pretty pink and oh soooo good:)

    1. Aw, yay! So happy that it worked out for you! Thanks for the feedback. :)

  8. I can’t wait to
try these recipes. I just found your website while searching for different ways to cook with avocados. I am getting a little tired of trying to slip them in my sandwich or mix them with eggs. I can not get my family to try anything avacado. I am trying these smoothies tonight without mentioning ingredients, I think we have found a new way to eat more healthy. Yeah!
Can’t wait to see more recipes to try.

    1. So sorry for the slow reply! I hope you and your family enjoyed the smoothie. :) I also have a hard time eating avocados so into smoothies they go! And they always work wonderfully. :)

  9. Perfect recipe at the perfect time! I’ve been trying to get more fruit in my diet by drinking smoothies for breakfast and I wanted something different to try with my raspberries. I had an avocado I didn’t want to go bad before I had a chance to eat it all and banana that was getting a little too ripe for my taste (which make them best for blending). I made mine with vanilla greek yogurt. I ended up with two smoothies from this recipe, can’t wait to drink one for breakfast tomorrow morning. The spatula I licked tasted delicious :-)

    1. So sorry for the slow reply! And wow, that was good timing with the fruit. :) And isn’t waking up to a smoothie already made for breakfast a great thing?! I’m happy this recipe worked out for you. Thanks a ton for the feedback. :)

I was drinking green smoothies for breakfast for a while there, but found myself after awhile choking down the green sludge (the spirulina didn’t help) where as I never did like the taste and was only drinking them for the health benefits and forget about getting my kids to drink them. Who could blame them? Not something I could keep up with so I’m happy I made this for breakfast this morning. I only put in half a cup of yogurt and lots of milk to make it easier for the kids to drink and we all loved it. Who wouldn’t want to drink a pretty pink drink? This was the first time my 15 month old was able to drink from a real cup where as it wasn’t too liquidy so I’m pretty happy!

    1. I can’t drink green smoothies, either. Just… no. I think my brain doesn’t like it and my stomach doesn’t either. And they just taste bad. And yay, so happy that your little one could also enjoy this! Thanks for the review and rating. :)

I used vanilla greek yogurt and mixed frozen berries
because that's what I had on hand. Taste is good but way too thick. I added almond milk.

    1. I'm happy that you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback. :)

  12. Delicious. I followed your recipe but also threw in a tablespoon of chia seeds and used vanilla yogurt because that's what I had in th fridge. Yum! I was looking for an avocado smoothie recipe because I knew it would make it creamy. Mine was definitely more of a guacamole color, but yummy nonetheless.

    1. You used raspberries, though? How strange that it came out green. I make all kinds of avocado smoothies and they never come out weirdly colored. I'm happy you enjoyed the smoothie and I like your additions! Thanks for the feedback. :)

  13. svg – Interesting! I haven't had the same effect. Oh well. :)

  14. i started drinking smoothies a week ago. My skin improved after 2 days! Everyone should drink them, I feel like a have more energie than ever.

  15. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try it out. In a little part. :)

  16. Prairiesummers – I know! They're green. They should count as vegetables. :)

  17. Rowena – I'm happy I found yours too! And I don't know what's up with the mold. Berries here are never in the refrigerated section, but they are in the US. Maybe that's what it is. And thank you for stopping by to say hi. :)
